Project "Vielfalt an deutschen Hochschulen"

Making Diversity Visible - Experiencing Diversity - Reducing Discrimination Risks

Along with 32 other universities, the University of Halle receives funding as part of the initiative "Vielfalt an deutschen Hochschulen" of the Hochschulrektorenkonferenz (HRK), supported by the Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF). The MLU project is entitled "Making Diversity Visible - Experiencing Diversity - Reducing Discrimination Risks" and was conceived by the Diversity and Equal Opportunity Office. The project is headed by Rector Prof. Dr. Claudia Becker.

The core of the project is the bundling and strategic dovetailing of the diversity dimensions established at MLU into a cross-thematic, intersectional diversity concept. By means of a moderated participatory coordination process within the university (part 1) as well as new awareness-raising formats (part 2), diversity is to be made more visible and tangible and discrimination risks are to be further reduced.

Project part 1:
Strategic dovetailing on the way to a university-based diversity concept

In four interrelated workshops, established and less established diversity perspectives at MLU will be compiled, discussed and bundled with a wide variety of participants from the university. The compilation of a cross-thematic data base will be complemented by the experiences from the consulting practice. After discussion with the general and specific interest groups and advisory bodies, the results will be introduced into the university development process with the university management and sustainably anchored.

Project part 2:
Development of innovative awareness formats

The evaluations of previous awareness-raising measures show that further innovative formats are needed to sustainably establish a diversity-promoting culture at MLU.

Therefore, an interactive game for information booths and events will be designed and produced within the framework of the project, which will make the complex topics of diversity and discrimination more tangible and arouse interest for further discussion.

On the other hand, appealing multimedia e-learning offers will be designed and produced, which sensitize for diversity and discrimination topics and complement existing further education formats with an asynchronous format.

Information on the funding initiative

On September 1, 2022, the Hochschulrektorenkonferenz (HRK) launched the "Vielfalt an deutschen Hochschulen" initiative, which is funded by the Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF).
The aim of the project is to support German universities in the further development of holistic diversity concepts. By funding university projects and cross-project dialog and exchange, the diversity of universities is to be further advanced at the national level. For the funding of individual diversity projects, HRK member universities were invited to submit concepts that contribute to the goals of the initiative.

In addition to promoting selected diversity concepts, the initiative focuses on cross-system dialogue. With the help of information, exchange and networking formats, the topic of diversity is not only brought into focus within universities, but also across universities. The inclusion of local and supra-regional actors also increases visibility. Overall, the accompanying communication measures are intended to raise awareness of the potential of diverse universities and bring it to the public's attention.

Funding begins in June 2023 and ends in April 2024.

The project "Initiative Vielfalt an deutschen Hochschulen" is funded by the Bundesministeriums für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF) under the funding code 01FP22V01.
