In recent years, the realization of gender equality in science has developed into a strategic management and cross-sectional task at Martin Luther University in the sense of the gender mainstreaming principle.

In the context of this task, the university is pursuing the following goals in particular with the “FEMPOWER @ MLU” project:

• Increasing the number of female students in STEM subjects: Motivating pupils to take up STEM studies (FINT)
• Increasing the number of female graduates (FINT) in STEM subjects
• Increasing the number of female scientists (FINT) in STEM subjects: Increasing the awareness of STEM students to take up an academic career
• Promoting the careers of young academics (FINT)
• Increasing the retention of highly qualified academics (FINT) at Martin Luther University
• Increasing the proportion of female professors (FINT) at Martin Luther University
• Supporting and professionalizing the work of the university's equal opportunities officers
