Über gender*bildet

Since 2018, the gender*bildet - Network Centre for Gender Research and Teaching has been working on anchoring gender and queer studies perspectives in teaching and research at Martin Luther University and developing their potential at all levels of the university, regardless of university disciplines.

The focus is on gender as a social construct. Gender is produced and actualised through and in the actions of individuals, institutions, etc. Ideas and norms of gender exist at all times and in all areas of society. People and organisations are oriented towards gender concepts. In this way, gender organises societies, structures inclusions and exclusions and has an identity-forming effect. Gender is always linked to other categorisations such as class, origin, age and race. The university as a place of knowledge production and dissemination is permeated by these power relations, reproduces them and for this reason occupies a key position. gender*bildet sees itself as an analysis and intervention project that contributes to reducing exclusion and discrimination at all levels of the university.
